Angel is a young, bright and talented showjumper from Madrid, Spain. He currently owns two horses, a stallion, Lavalette Leamax and a mare, Cannonball. Angel trains his horses with his trainer, Michael Honrubia six times a week. This, alongwith competing regularly and studying business in Madrid makes for a challenging timetable. "Riding for me really is everything. It's not the kind of sport that you can go into with uncertainty, and it has to be takenseriously because you're dealing with animals."
Angel has looked up to the older Spanish riders of the sport, including Ricardo Jurado, Rafi Latham and Luis Astolfi. “Their sheer talent is incredible, and a joy to watch. I used to go to competitions to watch them as a boy. Now I am riding and competingalong side them”.
In 2008 Angel won 1st place in a CSI*** International Young Rider Grand Prix in Toledo: 2008. He was also part of the Spanish Young Rider team that came 4th at the European Championships’ Nations Cup, as well as coming 14th as an individual. He also recently achieved 2nd place in the 1m50 Grand Prix in Sevilla. His aim for the future is to be selected for the adult Spanish Team. His advice to others would be, "respect and good treatment of your horses are paramount because a successful team is the result of 30% rider, 70% horse. Train hard if you want to be great."
