Nicolai lives in north Norway where he runs a training center. He competes all over Europe, individually as well is in the Norwegian Team with his 7 horses. Nicolai has some young horses, which he is training up to be the “next great horse.” “My aim is to bring out the best a horse has got to give. A good horse has to have the right attitude, not just good breeding. There is good breeding but there are not so many great horses and I think it has a lot to do with the connection between horse and rider. This has to be strong, you have to know the horses personally.” Nicolai´s advice to younger riders is to keep working hard. “You can´t win them all and there´s always disappointments but there is also always more to learn. You don´t need to be born into the sport to be professional.” Nicolai himself started when he was 11 years old. When his family moved to the countryside they bought a pony which Nicolai rode faithfully everyday. He entered a few local shows and as he grew they bought bigger better horses until he was competing in the European Championships as a junior. Since then Nicolai has come 3rd in the Norwegian Championships in 2010 and he represented Norway in the world cup in Mecalan, Belgium in 2010, achieving 14th place.
